Optical co-design
In traditional imaging systems, optics and digital processing are optimized separately. The optical system must provide the highest quality images, which increases manufacturing costs and bulkiness. In contrast, in co-designed imaging systems, optics and processing are optimized simultaneously, allowing processing to correct optical imperfections and simplifying processing by making optical properties insensitive to certain aberrations.
We implement this approach in two main applications. The first is depth-of-field extension using optimized phase masks and image processing. The second is the design of complex optics by jointly using professional optical design software and advanced image processing methods.
